It seems quite a few owners have this issue. it seems a bad design or something.

I hope Audi will extend warranty on motor coolant leak issue.

Is the warranty coverage for the coolant leak (and destroyed motor) limited to the 4-year new car warranty?

Correct. Audi doesn't have 6/100K powertrain warranty like BMW or others. So as far as I know, motors are only 4 years warranty in the US. It would suck to pay $10K+ to replace a motor due to a bad design.
