Default VW to invest $5BN in Rivian

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1ddmxmz1lpo

The move gives VW immediate access to Rivian software.

This will be interesting.

Yes! I saw this yesterday. Seems like something good. However, I know a couple Rivian owners and the software is glitchy. I guess that's the new norm. Interesting to see if any features trickle between the brands.

Won't do anything for current owners, it'll be a couple years and new hardware before the software shows up in VAG cars. And lets not underestimate the VAG's capability to screw it up.

Probably not for current owners. But for Q6 e-tron owners it will give immediate availability to baked in ABRP route planning. That will be nice to experiment with.

And OK, I know that saying Q6 e-tron owner is a total joke and calling the car late is giving Audi soooo much credit.

The Q6 hardware and software was done cooking a long time ago. You can't just dump new software into existing hardware.

You are correct. I just wonder why VW is being so adamant about saying that this gives us immediate availability to Rivian software.

That is an interesting statement when they could have said nothing. The typical VW method.

I wish I owned Rivian stock right now. It jumped 50% overnight.

.
Unless the software comes with a Rivian engineering staff, whatever will VAG do with it? Its not like VAG knows what good software looks like.

I don't think CARIAD is going away. VAG has already bought out a Chineses EV maker, mainly for the software expertise, and now VAG is in a collaboration with US Rivian. It seems like VAG wants software capability coming from all its major markets.

Yes you can, just not if you’re as ossified and inept as VAG.
