This requires a valid charging contract with the e-tron Charging Service. All Audi e-tron models rolling off the assembly line from mid-2019 will support this function as standard."

LOL. Missed that promise! and all the way from Abu Dhabi In 2018--
I got my e tron in Nov 2019, so I'm sure I would have missed that "mid-2019" cutoff anyway.

The first fast chargers with that standard didn't come out until mid to late 2020.
The fist car with that feature was the 2021 Mach-E.
I'm not sure if our cars have the hardware or software to be able to use plug and charge.

They probably don't but this is just yet another sign of Audi misleading it's customers. They sold the world with the initial e-Tron press release and to date, especially to it's US customers have delivered nothing.

It used to be on the US Media Release site also but can't find it anymore. Or it's buried deep somewhere in the archives as similar verbiage was written into the initial US Press Release for the e-Tron.

Actually we do have plug & charge available today…if you’re lucky as I was today. Pull up to a functional EA charger that has lost contact with the mothership, and you simply plug in and voila, you’re charging! No payment required, just like it was on July 4th.

They do all of this already with our free kwh so all the capability is already there! The crazy part is Audi has the ability to know which station its on and start the station remotely. They just have to update the website to take our CC info. That's how Ford has done it. The credit card info is actually on the website. never the car or charge station. If I had not seen the Ford implementation I too would have bought the schtick but it is simply not true.

The EA chargers show availability when you drill down into them in the navigation system and also shows you which ones are available and which ones are in use so realistically some software tweaks could easily do the finishing touches to make this work. I just don't think software development is a priority for Audi and they still operate in maintenance mode rather that improvement mode when it comes to software.

VW dumped their ownership (https://www.reuters.com/technology/v...es-2021-07-06/) so i'm gonna guess that ship has COMPLETELY sailed at this point.

This really is not true. EA was formed as a wholly owned subsidiary of the VW Group. It is now looking for outside investors as it expands the network into to the next phases.
