Default Disagree, Audi was getting bombed with warranty problems ....

because the turbo S4 was one of the favorite mod rockets ( just look at the salivating on this thread ! ) . Audi USA took away warranty service free loaner car rembursement from the dealers , scheduled free maintenance from the buyer and does other podunk things like cover warranty investigation of squeaks and rattles for only the first year because they are struggling to make money in the US market , despite all the great cars now and coming . Surprised that they want to go turbo route on the S4 , but I guess marketing people pulled strings due to the success of the 335 and the V8's poor gas mileage reputation in this era of near $4 gas.

Default I believe that the A4 should have a 3.0ttfsi motor as an option...

the S4 will end up staying a v8 and the RS4 will soon be a V8ttfsi. This is in line with history.

BUT! Audi seems to be getting into what might be choppy waters with diluting there product by having to many cars. I would really like to see the 3.0ttfsi as an a4 option locked in with the sline package or something of that nature.

We will see NY what they have to really offer.

Kudos to Teller for making this discusion possible and staying on top of the information.

Just my humbled $0.02.

Agree. Don't miss my 2.7T's; oil leaks, blown turbos, timing belts, and all

Default This isn't what this car is really going to look like, is it? Lame.

Audi used to make a beautiful car, why cop design elements from a Bangle 3-series? Also, I would rather have the V8, it sounds better and builds power better. For this car to be faster than the old 8, it either needs to make way more power than 330hp, or weigh 400lbs. less. Did they cut 400lbs. here? Doubt it. Don't care about the tunability of the turbos, since I'm not paying $50k for a car I have to now sink another $10k to tune. Still a $50 car after all of that. Would by a used RS4 instead. They should have split the difference between the RS4 and B6-7 S4 and gone with a 380-400hp V8. Reality is that its probably cheaper to go with the bi-turbo 6 then develop more power from the 8. Bleh.

Default Have a B7 S4, had S3 B5 S4...

Needless to say, I absolutely adored my B5, and already emailed my salesperson to put me on the list to dump my B7 for the B8. The V8 is great but it just isn't powerful enough and as the article said, very limited tuning potential.

I will take a well maintained & tuned 2.7T over the 4.2 any day, and this is based on real ownership experience, not "theory"

Default I have been waiting for this for a long time...

I've owned 6 late model Audis beginning with a '99 A4 that I bought for the (then) wonderful 1.8T engine. I then graduated into a B5 S4 with a complete AWE Stage III kit including fueling, intercoolers, and the whole 9. The car was absolutely fantastic and I still regret getting rid of it. I've also had a C5 RS6, B7 A4 2.0T (APR'd) and my current B7 S4. The B7 S4 is an absolutely wonderful car, but going on 2 years of ownership and being a mod freak it leaves me wanting more. Now the 335 is out, the new EVO is coming, new M3, C63, etc, etc - there's a lot of competition out there and the 4.2 V8 just doesn't give you the ability to "keep up" with them. My B5 would have absolutely annihilated my B7 and still be able to hold it's own against any of the new kids on the block. In addition, aside from regular maintenance it was a very reliable car. I sold it with almost 90k on the clock, still running like a champ. I could throw a tank of 100 octane in there and I'd gain 40hp to the wheels - and I did not have a program/map switcher or anything, that's just with a 93 map adapting! I just love forced induction.

I know the non-FSI 4.2 V8 has it's fans but I think that engine belongs in the A6, Q7, A8, etc. The S4 should stick true to it's TT roots and I am just over the moon with this news. I've already emailed my salesperson asking him when I can come in and place a deposit. I've waited for this for a long time. I love my Audis and I really am confident that Audi will make this a fantastic car.

Default That's way too much money to spend for 35 hp...

The performance/modability of the V6TT and the better gas mileage make all the difference. There's just not much else out there in that category to compete. I can now say that there is a replacement for my B5 S4.
