See if you can get a VAG-Com fault code reading or blink out the codes using the procedure outlined here:

http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...f20v.html#fcs4

I suspect you might have a Hall Sender problem. The code will be 2113. Even without the code, you still may have a sender problem. Open up the tuna can (hard to get to I know) and inspect it for damage.

I think there is a VW 16V hall sender that works. Check the codes and let us know. I'll check out the VW sender possibility.

I looked inside the tuna can and did not see any damage. I have a VAD mobile test set but did not receive the 2X2 cable. I am still waiting for it to be shipped. Do you have the part number for a replacement Hall Sender for my car? If I order one tomorrow I can get it here by Wednesday which will be about the same time they ship the cable from VAD.

I think (i.e. no guarantee) that the PN for your Hall sender is the same as the one in the Coupe Quattro 7A engine and the 200 20vt and early S2 3B engine. i.e 034998065. Contact your dealer.

This is something like you should see when you remove your AAN "tuna can" Hall sender cam position sender "tuna can":

I am trying to determine whether the actual sender can be replaced with one like this from BB Automacao (for a lot less money):

I asked about numbers on the actual Hall Sender on another forum and it appears that it is HKZ101, which is good news because BB Automacao sells replacement senders, as shown here:

http://www.bbautomacao.com/products.asp?cat=14

You would have to remove the existing one and splice in the BB Automacao one but the cost savings would be significant.

Or you can go OE and buy a BB Automacao for a back-up.

Good Luck.

I took out the distributor. It is a part number 034 905 215B. I have seen two way to take apart. Removing the gear and replacing the original pin with a 5/32" split pin or driving the shaft down through the window. I am probably going to buy a new/rebuilt OE and buying the Automacao for a back-up. I have not seen very many new/Rebuilt OE cheap. Any ideas?

Your PN for the complete Cam Position Sensor (Hall sensor) "distributor" makes complete sense. I think once you get pricing on a replacement, you are going to want to investigate the BB AutoMacao option further, i.e. *only* replacing the Hall sender (nothing else). This is where I am hoping that you can confirm the numbers on the Hall Sender as HKZ101 (once you have removed the equivalent of parts 2, 3, and 4 to expose 4A, the actual Hall effect cam sensor).

Well I finally got the gear drive off without damaging anything and low and behold the Hall Sender is a Siemens HKZ101. I will be purchasing a couple of them from BBAUTOMACAO. Also I did find a tuna can from ROCK AUTO for $294.00. If you know where I can one cheaper let me know. Thanks!

I'll have a look around for a better price. In the meantime, could you post a photo of the cam sensor plate showing the HKZ101 numbers (for my archives - so I can provide this info to the next person with this problem).
