yep, but they work right, are cost effective, do not seem to fail easily, and work with more that k24 boost.....

And if one dies in the middle of *insert name of small town* you have a good chance of buying one at the local auto parts store.

So why are people so hell bent on replacing coils? More power?

They fail, and they are expensive. When they start to fail it seems to be a slow death, resulting in loss of power and efficiency.

Folks over the years have been looking for alternatives, especially with something more modern and easy to get.

So if you do a conversion, while high cost up front, if/when a CP fails they are typically easier to source and less expensive.

$150 each for OEM. and OEM is stuick under the cover in a high temp environment.

These alternatives replace the coils and the POS's (something like $900 - 1000 to replace all) with something reliable and replacements are $15-50 each.....

welcome to the wonderful world of VWAG products

the only time they ever made OK ignition systems was when they used distributors

And I HATED doing plugs on my WRX. with the power I was making, I needed to do them every 6k to 8k with copper plugs. It would start missing like crazy if I didn't... and the plugs are right up against the frame rail on each side. stupid boxer motor

Same with my SVX, basically the same engine with two extra cylinders. You had to shove an extension through an access hole in the inner fender liner, then put a socket on that, and ratchet under the car in the wheel well to remove the back two plugs.

Fun stuff. :\
