Any increased effort disappears with the much improved feel. The Billzcat shifter is also adjustable anywhere from 0%-30% reduction. It replaces nearly all the plastic parts in the OEM shifter and includes new replacements for the remaining OEM peices. The billit shaft is so solid that the increased effort feels good compared to the OEM shifter feeling like it's going to break if you use a lot of effort to try to shift quicker.
You will have to do some cutting with a sawzall to get clearance for the shifter rod to get the full 30% reduction. Depending on your car the full 30% may not be possible if the rod hits the shifter tunnel too far back under the dash to trim it.
The Apikol shifter changes the linkage between the shifter and the trans. As far as I know this must be done under the car and may require trans removal. The Billzcat can be done in a couple hours all from inside the car. The trimming may seem scary, but it can be done easily and cleanly if you take your time and none of it is visible at all unless you remove the shifter boot and look down inside the shifter tunnel.
For ease of installation I went with the Billzcat. The Apikol seems to be something you would only want to do if you already have plans to drop the trans for a clutch replacement or other reason.
