Default been randomly hearing this noise latley

when normal driving at random I hear a whine/whure type sound which I think is coming from the rear of the car, (possible center, cant tell for sure) I hear it when I press gas pedal, sound builds, let off gas, sound fades away. I dont always hear it, at least not yet, and it is very lightly pressing gas pedal when I hear it, not very loud but it is distinct.

what type of sound does fuel pump make, can you hear it when driving, is it dieing
does drive shaft or rear diff. make any noises like this

what could this be

thanks

Default If it was the Fuel pump you would hear it all the time.

sounds to me like the rear diff. check the oil level in your rear diff if you can.
The filler should be just in front of the back right driveshaft you will have to take the rear right wheel off to get at it. if oil runs out its obviously full. Normally you should be able to see the oil just below the filler.

you will need a torch and a 10mm allen key to get the filler off

Default take your rear seat bottom out and youll hear the pump

i think mine is dying, but generally you will hear it all the time. if this is the sound change your pump. i doubt it is the rear diff.

Default I hear the same noise!!

I know that my rear diff seal is leaking and was going to replace it and change the tranny and diff fluids thinking that might fix the issue. I dont think it is the fuel pump, as stated we would hear it all the time.

Default Yea its a pretty common problem

I have heard this noise for about 2 months now. It has not gotten worse, but I wouldnt mind if it went away with this fluid change
