Default Besides the funky looking Head Gasket, one of the exhaust

valves looked a bit worn. The car has 215K and it appears to be the original head gasket. I was a bit surprised to see the burnt exhaust valve in cylinder 5. Heads being rebuilt and should be ready tomorrow.

Default Is that a helicoil in the sparkplug hole?

I expect to see something like that when I take mine apart. I've got no compression in #3. I'm hoping it's just a burnt valve.

Default Uhhhh, that looks "burnt" as opposed to "a bit worn"

Wear doesn't make chunks o valve disappear- I've seen UrS cars with higher mileage than yours and perfect compression so that's definitely not way past what I at least would consider expected wear.

Default What turbo, manifold and chip are you running?

LOL at "a bit worn"! That thing is wasted!

Default Burning exhaust valves on cylinders 1 & 5 isn't uncommon....

Especially if you are running an aggressive chipset or bigger turbo and don't have an upgraded manifold. The stock manifold doesn't flow as well and causes the heat from exhaust to build up too long there, and over time... well, that's what you are seeing.

Hence if I go to a more agressive chipset, I will be sure to use an RS2 manifold. It helps the exhaust gasses flow much better to avoid that burnup on the #1 and #5 cylinders for which this car is prone.

Right now I'm only running a 2.5 bar MTM chip. I want to go to a Stage 1+ 3.0 VMAP. But, it's a big step because of the manifold.

Default So what did the car drive like with the big hole in the exhaust valve?

I can't imagine compression was very good. HC numbers through the roof, melted cats?

Just speculating.
