Absolutely AWESOME news! We ARE going to be going through with the group buy on the CF hoods AND trunk lids! I just had a lengthy conversation with Albert at Fiber Images who filled me in on a bunch of the details.
First off, let me announce the official pricing we're getting from them: The 13 pound hoods will only cost us $575 and the 8 pound trunk lids will only cost us $525!! Much less than some of the numbers that we had been hearing earlier.
Additonal Info:
He also informed me that both the hoods and trunk lids WILL be able to use the stock latches, so NO hood pins will be necessary! Although our stock hood struts will be too powerful, he has offered to reinforce the area surrounding where stock hood struts attach and integrate a mount so that we can use aftermarket struts (be it a NAPA special, etc). The hoods and trunk lids will have a fiberglass frame inside, with a carbon fiber frame being optional at $150.
In regards to shipping: All shipping will be conducted through a freight company. In this case it is most likely that they will be shipped fully insured through Yellow Freight. The estimated cost to the East Coast is in the neighborhood of $200 +/- and will be arranged through Fiber Images.
What we need to do to move forward:
I will be compiling a spreadsheet containing everyone's contact information. Here is what I will need:
FULL NAME
SHIPPING ADDRESS
PHONE NUMBER
***The full amount isn't required up front, but they are requesting a 50% deposit will be needed by all members of the group buy within the next week or two.*** This will be payable by credit card over the phone. If this is a problem for anyone, please email me off list.
The aforementioned prices will *ONLY* be available to members of this group buy, so if your name, address and phone number do not make it onto that list, you will most likely be left paying $700+. If you want a hood or trunk lid, make 100% sure you get me this information by next Tuesday!

That's a 034 Garrett turbo setup right there. Weight loss is good, but not worth it if you have to rig a NAPA hood strut on there and loose the underhood insulation. This is a luxary, fat pig wagen so it's always going to be heavy.
My $.02

034 Garrett kit

****e and back, this is an awesome alternative to spending $300+ getting it repainted.
B) $575 is LESS than what a hood for your run of the mill Honda Civic would cost. IMHO, that's a sick price seeing as though I was ready to pay $800 + shipping for one.
C) It's a larger chassis car so it starts off weighing more, but that definitely doesn't mean that you can't GET IT to weigh less. Power to weight will always apply, no matter the car, truck or starting weight. Get a Stromung and a CF hood and you'll save what... 110-120lbs? Just like a Stromung, a CF hood is dual purpose, just the second purpose is appearance in place of sound... not to mention the fact that bare CF doesn't easily chip or get pitted.
D) When was the last time you heard of someone's underhood insulation saving their URS? I haven't.

letting it go to good use. I'm not in the market for anything CF, only because i'm not going that direction w/ the UrS.
So, this one is strictly for my ninjas!

Built well, the weight savings will be minimal.
I should get off my **** and start working with composites again. Cripes, $500 for a hood.
Are we posers or performance guys here? If it weighed within a 12%, and was made of fiberglass, would we buy it?
