changing my oil tonight...what cleaning additive would you guys recommend?

Default None, just keep your oil changed regularly and you'll be fine

oils today have enough deterdents as it is. If you motor does have large deposits in it, you don't want them to be broken apart all at once, they will fall into the oil pan and clog the oil-pickup causeing a loss of oil pressure. Ask the 1.8t guys, that is the problem they are having.

right now - castrol syntec blend. putting in 5w30 mobil 1...see if it makes the lifters shut up

Its is best to stick with one oil and not switch around.
