Default I don't think it pressurizes the system until you hit the crank position on the switch.

I think that is the way all the Bosch systems work. Maybe I am wrong.

Default Data...

I don't think there is any priming going on if the engine isn't cranked. The 044 pump is loud enough that I'd notice it...

How likely is a FPR to go bad?

I've been told that is not true with the AAN.

If I read correctly, the car starts every time but stalls some of the time? Or does it just spin the starter sometimes without catching? If it just stalls sometimes, clean your ISV. This was how mine was functioning before I replaced it. The car would fire to 1000-1200 rpm and then just shutoff with no codes.

Make sure you use a lubicating solvent to clean the ISV. I use engine cleaner from AC delco and it works great on carbon deposits. IE: spray it with wd40 after you use brake cleaner.

Hope that helps and its easy to do/check.

I have to do that regularly, since my trunk won't open from outside anymore... no pump noise.

Default Well, could be wrong...I am going by (failing) memory.

If so, please don't tell my wife.
