Could a faulty bypass valve cause inability to build boost?
I've been experiencing an inability to build boost above 12-15PSI or so, before hearing a loud "whoosh" of air from under the hood. I've experienced this before, and my tech quickly noticed that the hose connecting to my compressor outlet wasn't clamped down adequately... a little adjusting and tightening later, the car ran fine. Now the boost leak is back, and before I go crazy replacing all of the hoses and clamps, let me ask the question... Could a faulty (stock Bosch) bypass valve cause this sort of condition? My (somewhat limited) understanding of how these valves operate leads me to believe that it probably isn't the valve... but I thought I'd ask anyway. As much as I appreciate the additional fuel efficiency my easy driving of late has afforded me, this car should not be driven in this condition and I'm going to have the problem fixed this week.
Second question... are there any suggestions as to how one can secure these hoses so that they don't slide/pop off? I'm currently using regular hose clamps on OEM hoses. If I switch to SAMCO hoses, should I also consider a specific variety of fastener to accompany the new hoses? Thanks!

It's a boost leak.
I just recently worked on a car that would hold 15 lbs of boost but would leak at 20. If the vac line is off at the ecu, I doubt the car would even make 12 lbs.
Find the boost leak. Put a tester on the system and visually inspect it. Buy Samcos soon. Use the constant torque clamps from NAPA.

Thanks a lot...
You folks are a wealth of information.
Yeah, these stock hoses are on their way out. The SAMCOs are long overdue, and I'll also be picking up those constant torque clamps from McMaster-Carr.
Thanks again...

I helped a friend chip his Urs4 to Stage I
and since then its been a constant steady supply of failing turbo hoses and clamps, and it sounds just like your describing "sucking air sound with no power"
BTW, the body kit looks great

Yeah, the MTM software will push 22psi (I've seen more on 100 octane), and it just seems as though the stock hoses and clamps don't like the additional stress.
Thanks for your compliments, kind sir.
