Default e-code rear turn signal lenses installed

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/52091/turn_signal003.jpg"></center><p>Just finished installing the "sport" e-code turn signals tonight. They look red but flash orange, bought them used from a club member. The only downside is that you lose one of the marker lights, since the flasher is a single filament bulb as opposed to the dual filament on the DOT lens.

The DOT bulb holder will not work with the single filament bulb, but luckily the e-spec holder happens to be the same as a North American 90q (Type 89) which I happen to own. I swapped the two, now my 90q has an extra running light within the turn signal lens.

I tried to take a decent picture, but its dark out and the flash makes the lens look orange.

Default So now you are down to 5 W of running light per side. You should at least get the....

8W/27W bulbs to replace the 5W/21W bulbs. I got some for my S4 from Daniel Stern Lighting during the first 9011/9012 GP that I organized last June. They are Stanley P3496 12V 43/3CP 8W/27W.

Naturally, I like my solution better: converting both fogs to 5W (okay 8 W) running lights plus 21 W (27 W) extra turn signals (or brake lights, etc).

But hey that's just me (after being rear-ended by other cars three or four times in my life).

Europeans don't live in a place that gets 120" of rain a year AND is as dark as Vancouver in winter.

Default I'm running e-codes, as well.. but have been harassed by the police

... for my "orange lights." I've been trying to figure out my options, in terms of getting the rear corner lights to illuminate ONLY when the turn signals or hazard lights have been activated. So am I correct in assuming that I could use the bulb holder from a 90q to effectively run a single-filament bulb in my corner lamps, which will only illuminate them in the event that I use the turn signal or hazard lamps?

Just a thought :-)

Default If you run e-code rear corners, then you should only use single filament lamp ....

holders and bulbs. Until the signal light switch is activated, the e-code corners should be dark (no light). This means you loose 5 W of running light per side.

Default I'd like to think I'm a fairly prudent driver

... and aside from this "orange light dilemma," my car isn't any more of a target of profiling than your typical tuned import. In fact, I still think it's a fairly understated vehicle, compared to some other fiberglass monstrosities roaming the streets.

Compared to the stock UrS4, my car definitely stands out.. but then we get into aesthetics and subjectivity.. something about which I am reticent to discuss on these forums.

Default if you want a quick solution...

just put electrical tape on one of the tabs/posts of the bulb. Look at the circuit on the bulb holder and you should be able to figure out which one to cover.

Default Believe it or not,

I was thinking of doing precisely that... but I was worried about burning/melting something in the harness or near the contact points between the bulb and holder. I might give it a try when I get home from work tonight.

Another idea my brother had was to open the bulb holder and try to re-wire it in such a way as to achieve the desired goal.. but I'm a little averse to snipping wires and possibly making irreversible mistakes. I'll go ahead with the electrical tape fix and see how that works out. Thanks for the input!
