Default GT3076R vs. KKK hybrid turbo.

I'm still not 100% sure what turbo I had in my car, it was certainly not an RS2 OEM, but some sort of a KKK hybrid. Look at how filthy it got, it was leaking oil horribly bad toward the end of it's life.

Here they are next to each other, the Garrett, in all it's large glory.

Default why the 3076r

when i brought that turbo up, only thing i heard was that its a gt3071 with a bigger hotside, same compressor, that results in higher boost threshold and similar power. i'm confused. /

Default Go to the link, scroll down to compare 3071 & 3076

3076 has larger turbine & compressor. So it spools slower but can flow more.

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/products/turbochargers.html</a

Default without going to that link .. its obvious anything that spools slower flows more.

i was under the impression that emre thought the rs2 was laggy enough and last i heard was headed towards a 3071. i'm just wondering what happened in the thought process.

Default This thought process might be described as an "aneurism" (edit)

The general opinion is that the 3071 is the limit of the stock engine capabilities.

So for GT30R with T3 (not K26) flange means he will minimally need:
New Exhaust Headers
New Downpipe (at least)
Strengthened rods & bolts
...
Probably also :
ARP head studs
Valve springs & retainers also
Strengthened Pistons

And it will have a much narrower power band (4K+ ~7K) unless he greatly insreases the capacity, strokes the engine, and creates more flow with Port & polish and Exhaust cams.

Great if you want to do it - I'd like to get away from the K26 Flange myself. But at 330whp I still haven't even finished getting all the potential out the GT3071.

BTW: spools slower doesn't mean flows more. But bigger turbine wheel means flows more, and will spool slower for the same volumetric flow. A smaller wheel with bad trim or lots of clearancing can also spool slower but with less flow.

Default this post has some misinformation in it. You do not need pistons its been proven numerous times

and tried and tested by big hp guys in europe all day who are running up to 500 wheel on stock pistons all day. also do not need arp head studs the stock ones are just fine as proven by dahlbac (on his golf) and olaf (big numbers aan powered urquat)

Default "some" being the key word - no one jumped in to claim you could run GT30R on stock internals

downplaying the amount of work involved would be misinformation
