Default Guys what does you ur run at on its voltmeter, before starting and when ticking over?...

Just that yesterday the needle was sitting at 14 and a half?normally its at 12 and a half.
What does it mean when the car does this?is it actually compensating for the loss of battery charge?Or does the alternator give a standard level of charge whatever the situation?

Many thanks
Damien.

Default Mine normally sits just below 14...

As more amperage is demanded, the voltage drops. Lowest I've seen with the engine running is about 13V. High amperage drawn by headlights, A/C (radiator fan comes on), seat heaters. As long as the voltage is above about 12.5V, the battery is charging.

Same here. Usually right about 14 volts and drops to 13.5 with heavy load.

Default Damien,I get ~14-14.5V on the day and somewhere between 12-13V with load...

Damien,I experienced some issue before. You may check the connector from the alternator to the Starter.there'll be the big black wire.I got loosen on the starter jumper. So there's insufficient charging to the battery.and when the engine is hot.my starter was sound very weak and it was back to nornal when it has been sitting for an hour.I figured out that all the issue was from the loosen jumper.there was some
spark on there too.worth to try.

PS. someone's here been told me that the voltmeter on the IC has been shown less than actual around 0.5V

Ignition on: a hair below 12v

Cranking: 9v with the needle swaying a little

Cold idle: 14v

Heated seats & defrost make the needle move a little bit. 55w xenons low beams make the needle wag a little more so. 55w low + fogs on leave the needle at a hair above 12v on the gauge.
