Default Has anyone removed the input shaft seal on the tranny?? searched and couldn't find anything....

The Bentley refers to this ridiculously expensive tool that slides over the input shaft and screws into the seal, pulling it out in the process.

I have a seal puller(prybar style)and i just wanted to see if there was a secret trick out there before i tear into this baby.

Thanks in advance!!

Default yeah, just use a small enough screw so that

fully wound in, it wont scratch the machined surface.

Default thanks, i'll try that, and i'll keep my leverage hook type puller as plan B!...Btw, that turbo V8...

looks pretty badass. I like the vacuum actuated dump valve on the exhaust too. I have one similar that i've been thinking of installing, this way I could put a quieter muffler on and still have the dump for WOT!

Default Haha, yeah I'm only 6 hours away! Actually, the rear seal isn't.....

too bad, but you need a press to remove and reinstall the output shaft. You need to remove the rear bearing housing(contains output shaft, seal, and bearing) and then press the output shaft out of the bearing(first you have to remove a c-clip, spring, and some washers). Then you will have access to the seal. remove seal, press in new seal. Then press output shaft back into bearing, BUT you should support the inner race of the bearing when pressing the shaft back in to avoid damaging bearing. I supported it with a proper sized section of pipe. I forget if the bearing was a ball bearing or roller bearing but if its a self contained ball bearing you may get away with gently pressing the shaft back in without support since the press fit isn't a very tight one. Then reinstall everything, being carefull not to forget the washers, c-clip and spring. The o-ring that seals the housing wasn't available at the stealership by itself so i just reused the old one and put a very little gasket maker around the outer surface of the housing for safe measure.
hope that helps.
