in more detail? I'm 99% sure I just have a sticky lifter, but I wanted to get your experience with the noise you heard as listed on your page as a "loud ticking", was it the kinda noise you could "feel" like a typical rod knock, or could it be confused with a lifter tick?
My noise <seems> a little louder under the car, but I'm most likely wrong.
Thanks!!!

My friend's dad actualy replaced a "bad" looking lifter before tearing into the motor because that is what he thought it was.
And the picture of the bearing was only about 8 miles or so of using it while it was making that noise. I heard it on the ride home form my girlfriend's house, and when I got home I got out of the car, and it just sounded too loud to be anything minor. After a few more times of just starting it to hear the motor, not putting load on it, the sound was much more pronounced, I believe skolnick has a video of a MkII Jetta with a spun rod bearing that sounded as mine did right before the bottom end was ripped apart. If you've been hearing the noise for a while, I highly doubt it's a problem with a(the) rod bearing(s).
