It's just harder, becuae you have to pull on the radio itself.
I went down to Schucks, got "kit 67", which is a universal radio removal tool kit, removed the radio, and returned the kit (with the blessing of the guy at the counter.)
The right tools make the job so simple...
Hey, you need a used Gamma? I have one for sale.

The tips of the hanger should go in pointing slightly away from the body of the radio. THere are little spring tabs there that have to be pressed into the radio chassis.
It is possible to stick the tool in and get it stuck behind the tab, forcing it further way from the body of the radio.
This is bad. I have heard of at least one case where drilling was involved to get out a radio in that condition.
I don't see how it could happen, but if you're ham-fisted enough, ANYTHING can go wrong.
Anyway, once the legs are in the holes, if you take the "U" parts and pry gently such that you are compressing the spring tabs against the sides of the radio, use your third hand to pull the radio out. The real tools have a mechanism to catch themselves on the tab so you can pull the radio out with the tools.

Well, you could just use four hex keys of similar size to shove in there, move those clips then pull GENTLY as to not take off the face of your unit.
(That sir is how I got my gamma-bose in and out)
