How to power your central locking system when your battery is dead and
#14
While we are on the subject of door locks, not to hijack the thread. But why would all the locks lock when you open just one door and then reopen once all the doors are closed again, and then mysteriously cycle all the locks to open and close with out being asked to do so? Spirits of other departed urS4's?

Resyncing of the central lock system
Your central locking system is, for some reason, out of sync (reasons not clear). I searched the forum archives on "out of sync" and found several posts, including some from a "nicd" several years ago (!!??)
Anyway, here is the methodology to resync the locks:

Thats still me
Thanx I had tried to resync unsuccesfully and have been living with this since then. Since the subject kind of related I decided to jump on and get a third opinion. I will try it and get back to you on it. So that future searches will turn up and answer and problem.
Thanks.

Hmm, I did the procedure and it fixed the situation once but then resorted back to its evil ways. Would this be an indication of another problem such a the vacuum pump failing. Its a weird situation.

Could be the vacuum pump or low battery voltage. All sorts of things (e.g. sunroof) become demonically possess when the voltage gets too low.
How old is your battery? What does it read (11.5V?) with the alternator and engine off?

go through the trunk!
On many older S4 and A4 models the trunk is a manual keyed entry. Unlock the trunk, push through the rear seat, unlatch the hood and then charge the battery!
