Unscrew the line coming from the master cylinder and cap it or screw in a bolt. Then push the pedal, it should be super stiff. If the seal is shot the brake pedal will still move cause the fluid is just washing past the piston seal.

that. put Hawk track pads on and drove to the track, pad bite was awesome, pedal feel was great whole time at the track. got home, swapped old pads back in, pedal feel was horrid. (same rotors used the whole time). bled brakes front and rear, ran out of fluid, rebled next day with new fluid and still could not get solid pedal feel. waiting for a pressure bleeder as right now the pedal is soft and pushes down far and car does not brake like its got good brakes, but if I press pedal twice quickly it feels great and stops great (locks em up). will try capping the master cyl. too. have a spare from a 200 20vt, they the same? might also have one from a 94 S4
