ISTFA... VEMS vs 034
#11
Here's my 2 Amero's .........
I chose to go with VEMS because I consider Marc Swanson one of the good guys and a friend.
Geographically, it made sense to go w/ the VEMS because 034 is on teh wrong coast...and IMO, one on one customer support is hard to beat when it comes to standalone tuning. I call Marc for every little stupid question...and he never seems to mind. Weekends, late night, he always has his Batphone on.
For my particular needs, the VEMS had all the features I required, mind you so does the 034 IIC system. The IIC powers my friends 512 whp coupe...so I know its an awesome system as well.
I've had the VEMS running for over 3 weeks now and there are no glitches. I left Marc's not quite dialed-in because of some silly POS/Coil issues that have since been resolved. Also, we did the initial street tune w/ the stock wg spring...so boost levels were not at full tilt for my Rs2'd car.
A week later I re-calibrated the tune for the 1.9 bar spring and w/ Marc's help over the phone he walked me thru Open Loop tuning. Man...this is what its all about baaaby !
Dialing For Teh Boost : p
After a few runs where I would Datalog and see where things fell, I would adjust boost settings accordingly.
To date, the car is set for max boost of 297 Kpa's ( ~28lbs of boost ) at 4775 rpms and a very safe .81 Lambda ( ~ 11.93 AFR ) . Injector duty cycle is in the mid 60's percentage wise.
This folks is a super strong car w/ a very safe tune for 93 pump.
Not bragging...but me thinks its one of the strongest UrS4's w/ Rs2 power in the US. Marc and I will do final tweaking on the dyno before Thanksgiving so we can put the money on the claim.
And yes the AC works great as well as all the other functions.
Here are some pics of the VEMS in action screen.

This screen is an example of my final run where I set my current boost DTC's. If you look at the TPS I wasn't even at WOT.

Can't say anything about 034.
Marc is a great guy, great support, immediate response to phone calls, emails etc. And very generous with his time. VEMS is great. Plug in and drive away (you'll need some tuning later). Pricewise, ease of installation you can't beat it. I pull to the side of the road and switch from Bosch ECU to Vems from time to time and do it in 20 seconds.
