That's why we do this! =)
Our tunes, with the flexibility of the Motronic knock sensing ignition, are safe for both 91 and 93 octane tunes. We offer 100 octane tunes as well with a mapping select feature so you can switch between two maps with the flick of a switch.

I assure you I'm all about doing it yourself and tuning yourself. 034 was started on that very philosophy. Just trying to put things into perspective here. That shoe certainly doesn't fit everyone. And there seem to be a lot of folk that think being able to (for the most part) plug something in and start an engine on a basemap = as easy as installing a tuned chipset.

So if I start with a plug-n-play chip right now that costs $600 or so, then later in a year or two I can have the option of upgrading to a better setup and easily sell the chip to somebody else on the forums. I don't think that would be too much of a problem.
This is my first chip, I can't go HAP right away! :-)

If one goes there, then RS2 works as a plug-n-play option, and there is no real need for standalone tuning with those factory bits.
If one then says from there that Stage 0 is very conservative, and that Stage 1 chiptuning just takes what's already on the table, standalone is a bit too much for that as well.
In addition to the costs involved, chiptuning fills a need that standalone is way over-the-top for.
If you have any suspicion that you may go further than RS2, then buying and learning standalone up fron is money well-spent. For just RS2? The "factory" chipsets that are out there work just fine.

actually i'm reading a book about standalone engine management systems right now. What a page turner!
