We have a winner!
Ideal turbo, for me:
Comes on about 3k, but under that, no boost. Why? Because, then, if I drive it like a granny, I can stay out of boost always, and keep the MPG reasonable.
Comes on hard at 3k, then goes all the way to about 6.5-6.9k, where it drops off. If I need to, I can keep the revs up there for being on-boost. And when it's on-boost, I want it on HARD.
This turbo will work with the RS2 EM, and the RS2 injectors, but the stock MAF and fuel pump.
And it has to be a journal-bearing turbo, for reliability and longevity.

...regardless of cooling. But coking can happen quickly if your turbo is really hot, and you don't give it quite enough cooldown/spindown.
Water cooling gives you a much bigger margin.

I'm not a fan of ball-bearing turbos, though. I think the reliability and longevity of a journal-bearing turbo rules, IMO.
