Default Honestly hard to say why the bearing spun...

Was it because of too much heat? Break-in time? Too much HP? Oil breakdown/insuffcient lubrication? Out of round crank? etc,etc...

Regardless never do it..it is $$ and a PITA to have your wife drive you to work everyday while the car is in the shop

Default I dont think he wants to go there..you are more pointing out the failure point of the rods

Like you said not daily reliablity of the car...we would never want that.

I say ~400-420 Crank HP is about as much as can have any reliablity. I was putting down around 325 WHP when the rod bearing spun.

Default Never do it? Already done!

And yes, 3 months with no boost, driving my Coupe Q with studded snows in summer (wasn't about to buy new tires for a car I wouldn't be driving soon) sucked the big one.

Default my very humble opinion... 300 or so newton meters

thats what im pushing now and im a bit concerned above 6000rpm. although, im not into that whole 'floor it till the rev limiter stops you' gig.

notice i refer to torque. since thats what i believe to be what would snap rods w/brute force.

then maybe i should be most concerned at 5k rpm where the #s are highest.

im planning on going w/a catch can, front mount(prolly vert),W/I, oil cooler upgrade before more upgrades and internals. that should be fine. till 200k when i 'plan' the rebuild...im at 156k now.

Default Hey Dave, are you loosing your sight in old age?

Where did you see any guarantees? Nowhere.

My guestiamte (which is as good as yours is) is that the MAX HP number, where further power will cause structual integrity, is 380 whp. No we can **** all day over if that number can be done daily, once, track, whatever. But my guess still stands at 380 whp. IMO, at 380 whp the block would need blueprinting and a lot of machine work so the rod bearings and main beargins do not spin (a bigger worry then rods). From what I have read and seen, Gary AKA SoCalAR seems to agree with me, forged rods bend from detonation, not pure power.

What is Dave Dawson at? Did he not near the 380 whp mark with stock internals? Am I thinking of anohter from the CO mafioso?

FWIW, this is MY $0.02. If you don't agree, fantastic. But suport your side of the debate with some facts or information not the bulls!t you usually resort to. Deal?

Default Dave Dawson wa at just about the same hp/tq as Cody...

That would be around the 325hp/ 400tq numbers. He just rebuilt his engine with Carrillo rods and went to a GT35R turbo with tubular manifold. He was running an RS2 turbo and mani just like Cody.

Hap, tryin to remembah da kine from Evahboost

Default Was it him that tried several turbos on the dyno?

Then concluded that RS2 was "best" for his style.

Default A friend's running 400+ on stock internals, fine so far.

He understands that he's pushing it, but it's been a couple years and several track events with no trouble. K26/27 turbo with RS2 bits and IA chip, probably 425hp at the crank and running strong. IA tunes quite rich to prevent any detonation, a bit less power but safe.

Default Ditto. I said "safer" as in far less worry about the problems you mention. And oh yeah,...

your numbers are just heresay (second hand).

Dave
