As you know, I like to be right. However, I am not afraid of being wrong (if that ever happens);>
After yesterday's chip identification thread, I was confused because several people claimed that their MTM chips were real and were hand labeled. The confusing part was I was sure that I had seen photos of MTM chips with printed labels.
Before I went to bed last night, I checked my magazine collection - in particular two articles in European Car about Hoppen Motorsport and their S4/S6 tuning program. No photos. (Drat). However, there was a phone number. Hmmm...I will phone them in the morning.
So this morning, second thing, I phoned Hoppen. Mike Hoppen (Josef (Joe)'s son) answered. I explained the situation and Mike responded that, in the beginning, with the S4's, they would get the encrypted EPROM chips directly from MTM (with a Bosch 3.0 bar transducer for the "+1" chips). They would come to them hand labeled. (D'oh!!). However, Mike went on to say that the delivery time from Germany was getting too long so he was able to get an encryption board and blank chips from MTM (with the Bosch transducers) so he could burn the chips, as required, in Florida for his customers in the States. On these chips, he applied printed labels that they did up in their office.
So I was right, and I was wrong. I really thought it would be MTM that had put the official labels on and the dealers (or others) who wrote the hand labels.
Mike said that if the chip was labeled "3.0", it definitely needed a 3.0 Bar transducer. I asked if he had ever used a VMAP. He had not heard of them. So I told him how they work and pointed him to www.moreboost.com.
Hope that redeems poor "Librarian" who was wrong about the "cloning" thing.

PS is the symbol for pferdestarke, which is German for horsepower (pferde = horse, starke = power). The symbol PS is used in both the German and Japanese markets.
pferdestarke is the same as metric horsepower, if you can have such a thing.
1 pferdestarke = 0.9863201 horsepower nternational]
264 pferdestarke = 260.4 horsepower [international]
Hmmm...I thought MTM+1 was good for 270 hp.
(a whole new "discussion" ensues)

The only data point I have is that my MTM stage 2 car (i.e. 1+ sw and RS2 EM) put down 225 WHP on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. On the same day, a stock RS6 put down 330 WHP on the same dyno. So IF we assume the RS6 had exactly 450 crank horsepower as rated and IF we assume the two cars have similar driveline losses, and IF we assume that dynamometer and drivetrain losses are linear with respect to measured RPM and torque, that might suggest that MTM 2 = 450/330 * 225 = 307 crank HP.
I am not claiming that my car is or is not 307 "crank" HP. Obviously there are a lot of assumptions required to get that number.
Incidentally, the Hoppen web site lists the stage 2 package as 290 HP.

6 minutes). Besides, you must know by now, I don't like to be wrong, if I can help it.
Now, the cam cover polishing thing, well... it was a matter of opinion and I was, rightly or wrongly, looking out for Skollie. I never thought that you were going to intentionally do anything bad. I just didn't like the FBBW (Freakin' big buffing wheel) approach that your polisher took. Which wasn't meant to be a slam on you personally.
Hope you still don't "hate" me (too much).
That's Emre's job. ;>
