Default Need a hand with A8 / S8 rotor part numbers

I'm looking for A8 (S8) rotors with part number "4D0 615 301 J". These are the 323x30mm discs needed for my big brake upgrade. But in searching for these, I've found other part numbers applied to what appear to be the same parts and I want to confirm they're correct.

For instance, this site lists these 2003 S8 rotors as "#N1000-126262":

<a href="http://parts.autopartsonlinecanada.com/parts/apocanada/quote.jsp?year=2003&product=N1000-126262&application=000563145&part=Brake%20Disc&cat egory=N">Auto Parts Online Canada</a>

In fact, every site I go to seems to use different part numbers for what appears to be the same rotors! Here's "4D0615301E-M72" and "4D0615301J-M259":

<a href="http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_Search.cgi?please_wait=N&forumid=&threadid=&FI LTER_ACCE=ON&FILTER_CARE=ON&FILTER_STUF=ON&FILTER_ PERF=ON&FILTER_MISC=ON&FILTER_GADG=ON&FILTER_TOOL= ON&FILTER_SUPP=ON&FILTER_TECH=ON&command=DWsearch& command=DWsearch&REFINE=Y&FORUM_REFER=&description =4D0+615+301&FILTER_SUPP2=ON&FILTER_TECH2=ON&FILTE R_ACCE2=ON&FILTER_CARE2=ON&FILTER_STUF2=ON&FILTER_ PERF2=ON&FILTER_MISC2=ON&FILTER_GADG2=ON&FILTER_TO OL2=ON&description=4D0+615+301+J&x=0&y=0&FILTER_AC CE=0&FILTER_CARE=0&FILTER_STUF=0&FILTER_PERF=0&FIL TER_MISC=0&FILTER_GADG=0&FILTER_TOOL=0&FILTER_SUPP =0&FILTER_TECH=0&FILTER_SUPP2=0&FILTER_TECH2=0&FIL TER_ACCE2=0&FILTER_CARE2=0&FILTER_STUF2=0&FILTER_P ERF2=0&FILTER_MISC2=0&FILTER_GADG2=0&FILTER_TOOL2= 0">Pelican Parts</a>

And here you'll find "PPE-N1000-126262":

<a href="http://www.drivewerks.com/cgi-bin/ppexpress/ppe_drivewerks.cgi?command=show_part_page&YEAR=200 3&MAKE=AU&MODEL=S8--001&Category=N&esc_part=Brake+Disc">Drivewerks</a>

Partsquick seems to indicate that N1000 is an aftermarket variant of the original. Can I go with that too, or do I need to find the original part?

<a href="http://www.partsquick.com/ProductDetail.asp?i=245814">Partsquick</a>

I thought part numbers were supposed to make it EASY to find parts. :-\

Thanks.

Default Well, Ate say that...................

4D0 615 301 J
4D0 615 301 A
4D0 615 301 F

Are all the same part number. These are all Audi P/Ns. When I buy Zimmerman rotors they reference "A".

4D0 615 301 E is the part number for the A8 345mm rotor.

The thing that always gets to me, is the companies you buy from will give you the rotor by years, but when you look for more info, they never give you the size of the rotor.

Default Part nubers are like A-holes...everybody has their own.

Each distributor has a part number, each manufacturer has a part number and Audi has several (as you've found) for the same part. As parts are superceded by newer versions that are functionally the same a list of equivalent part numbers grows. As long as the rotors you buy are 323x30 and fit a D2 A8 they will work.
