Default New to the forum curious about TAP1

Hi

I have had my 93 S4 since it was new. It has 31,000 miles on it. I am thinking about getting a tap1 chip done to it.

Has anyone had this done?
Also, what is the lug pattern? I have been told 2 different ones

Thanks

Bolt pattern is 5x112
Available on Audis and Mercedes Benzs (sometimes aftermarket Benz wheels use thinner lugs and you need to drill the lug holes out an extra 2mm)
Also available on VWs (but not ALL VWs):
B5 and up Passats
Mk5 and up Jetta/Golfs

Depending on width, offsets between 35 and 45 are acceptable for a 7 to 8" wide wheel.

I run 17x8 ET35s on mine with no rubbing. I could probably go out another 5mm without rubbing on front and back.

stock 16x8s are ET40 (I've heard ET38 too... but I think that's incorrect)

from my experience, most OEM Audi 5x112 16" and up wheels fit on these cars no problem. Your mileage may vary though.

Wow, you have a 93 w/31K miles on it???

Btw, I have the TAP chip in my 95 (because that's how I bought the car) and there are no issues that are related to the chip. To be honest, I haven't driven UrS cars with other chips, but when compared to the stock software even the TAP makes a huuuge world of difference.

My $0.02.

FWIW Tap's fueling/timing chip is the same as stock. All they do is modify the boost chip for a little more boost and then pop a sticker on both chips. At least the couple we've had come through here were setup like that.

If you're looking for just a chip, no fueling or turbo upgrades, we've had good results with our Stage 1 chipset.

Anything more than this and you really need to replace the injectors for proper fueling abilities. There's a little more left in the stock turbo with bigger injectors, but not much. Most guys use our stage 1+ as a 'stepping stone' into RS2 sized turbos.

About 9 years ago, people used TAP.. but then real engineering was applied that surpassed in all ways, what TAP had on the market.

More prominent developer/tuners are
2Bennett (Davis CA)
Intended Acceleration founded by Ned Ritchie.(Pacific North West)
MTM led by Joe Hoppen (Florida but licensed by MTM Germany)
Mihnea Cotet (MRC)Belgium, did custom tuning for a while, now off to newer cars.

all great technical solutions.. more in Pac NW I am just not instantly recalling now..

I'm not sure when 034 burst on the scene, but those guys live breath and are passionate about tuning well for many years now. Recommend you check them out, leading North American supplier, parts and service.

ALso EPLabs in Southern CT is well known and respected on the east side.

Then there's the Colorado guys, who lit this whole fire about Mod'ing AAN's about 9 years ago..Steve Eiche and Dave Jones are the one's I can recall, super talent.

In short, TAP is no longer leading in any way, you can do much better than that and enjoy correct A/F ratios, propdf engine tuning plus Thrust, like you won't believe. Get a ride in an RS2 (at least) equipped S-car and you'll be well on your way , down the slippery slope.

And forgive me if I forgot to mention other prominent tuners.

I own 2- S4's IA Stage 3 and MRC RS2..

Default At this point, I would recommend a chip set and VMAP from MRC through

Bob Myers at Chip-ur-s. You will want the MRC Stage 2 chips, with the VMAP, that will bring you to about 270-280 hp with the stock K24 turbo and injectors. I think you will be happy with the result.

For details about the different Stages offered by MRC in North America, go here:
http://www.chips-ur-s.com/basics.html

For pricing go here:
http://www.chips-ur-s.com/order.html

I am running MRC Stage 3 with an RS2 exhaust manifold, turbo and injectors. I fear (almost) no "evil" on the highway.
