Thank you again for the links - I checked my list from the previous owner, and yes, there was a problem with the after-run fan (it would turn on in the middle of the night and stay on indefinitely).

The after-run fan relay, the 324, is triggered by the two pin after-run thermal switch on the water manifold under the intake manifold. Once triggered (switch contacts inside the switch close at 110 C), the 324 is supposed to stay on for 10 minutes or until the temp drops down to 90 C (IIRC) at the switch. The 324 triggers the missing 214 fan relay (because of the load the fan draws) as well as the after-run pump. Suggest that you replace the thermal switch and check out the 324 (open it up, removing the brown cover, looking for contacts that are burnt, etc. Repair or replace as needed). Then reinstall the 214 relay. It is there to protect your engine and turbo from heat.
