Default noise at WOT - flutter vs clatter when boost hits 22-24...

recent install of OEM rs2 turbo, mani, MAf and injectors with IA software... (which I love - fantastic improvement over stock)
is this pinging - 93 octane and it's cool here... or could it be waste gate flutter - boost gauge doesn't move and power doesn't seem affected.

My fuel pump is still original so I'll swap it out... time to upgrade or just rewire it as well.

Default If it sounds like a clatter or a rattle then it is pinging and you need take it easy

until you fix it.

Default Might be worth adding the fuel pressure gauge to your TDS-1...

It sounds like it <i>could</i> be detonation. If you're running the stock 4 bar fuel pressure regulator the factory pump can't keep up.

yep - but still haven't pulled apart the dash cluster to wire every thing up. I'll be in touch soon.

Default Ok - but not sure it's really metallic - more like a "wet fart" also shouldn't I feel it?

if it's pinging - shouldn't the power cut out a bit???

Default I'd be surprised if you ping w/93oct having modified your engine with known good & safe parts

and software.

could be the wastegate or some strange exhaust flutter.

In my car I get a bit of a vibration/flutter/rumble/clatter sound when I get into boost. For me I think it's something in the drivetrain...I've long suspected my rear diff to be slowly on its way out. My motor has 340,000km on it and I'm pretty sure most everything (that hasn't been replaced by me) is still original.

I intended in the near future to pull the motor &amp; go with a complete rebuild, plus look at R&amp;R'ing or out-right replacing some of the more major driveline &amp; steering components. If it still makes noise after than well then I have a more serious problem. But for the time being I don't feel the car is in grave danger and have taken to generally driving her like a grandma. I'm positive the car isn't as healthy as she was 2.5yrs &amp; 60,000km ago when I got her.

Default "Wet fart" is not pinging. But pinging does not necessarily cause reduced power

just a lot of rattling.

Default The TDS-1X can display fuel pressure, and more usefully dynamic (fuel pressure - manifold pressure)

It is kind of a PITA, but your TDS-1 could be upgraded to -1X. Only the really old ones can't be.
