Default Pics of my ipod setup

Well I finally finished this setup, I wanted to hook my ipod directly into my gamma radio and have it charge at the same time. This seemed like a simple idea to me, but proved to be difficult to complete.

I ended up getting a genuine apple dock and locating it in the ash tray. It sits tight in there so I did not have to fasten it down. The rear of the ash tray had to be cut to allow for the charger and headphone jack.

Installing a headphone jack and the charger was the biggest problem. I wired the jack right into the back of the gamma, ground to common ground, and LR headphone jacks to the corresponding CD changer inputs (I have a silver box but no CD Changer). The charger was wired to a switched power and a ground by the shifter. The problem was that I could not hook up the charger and the headphone jack at the same time without getting a horrible engine noise/whine.

I tried rewiring in so many possible configurations, tried a ground loop isolater from radio shack, with no luck. I was ready to give up and just use the headphone jack and not have it charge with the ipod playing. I did however find the fix for getting rid of the whine with Noise filter from crutchfield (PAC SNI-1/3.5). This thing worked great, it plugs right into the headphone jack and fitlered out all the noise/whine.

It works great now, sound is great, Ipod charges! And when im not using or park somewhere I can just pop the ipod out and push back in the ashtray and there is no evidence of having the ipod to potential thiefs.

Here are the crappy pics, sorry camera sucked

I also rewired the ground for the power antenna and put in a switch so I can leave it down when the radio is in CD mode. Its hard to see in this pic but it is located right next to the altoids box. I think you can see the white dot for the top of the switch. Its nice in this location because its hidden from view but easily accessable.

Spencer, My S6 has the 6 CD changer in the trunk, with no silver box. It appears you have added your iPod directly to the Gamma Head - is this right? Any more details on this project would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ed

What he said. Did you bypass the silver box? Or use it?

Bump

This is a decent writeup, but does leave some questions unanswered. Seems like Cash should just bust in there and check it out.

Okay look man. I post questions, you tell me to search. It's either I revive old threads with existing information, or I start new threads at which point you tell me to search the forums.

Which do you want?
