Rear ended......the insurance saga begins
Sitting at a stoplight at a major intersection on the way to work this morning listening to the MotoGPod podcast when I was rear ended, not a good way to start the day.
Damage was slight as it was a 3 car accident with me being the front of the train. Service van hit and pushed a Ponticrack bucket into my rear bumper. A cop and I managed to get the bumper somewhat off the rear tire and luckily I was only about a mile from home so I limped back to the driveway. Upon closer inspection it seems that the DS rear quarter panel is also tweaked with a slight crease just above the wheel and it no longer lines up with the trunk lid.
So we will see what happens here with regards to insurance. Are rear bumpers as hard to find ($$) as the fronts? Rear quarter panel the same as an A6?
This blows.

the C4 A6 Bumper is a bolt on replacement....
I bought a silver A6 bumper from a salvage yard off ebay and had it shipped directly to my house. $275, in factory silver paint, from http://stores.ebay.com/tasalv2006..nice to get parts from south carolina...
About 30 minutes to R&R the bumper...only tool needed was a 13mm socket and ratcheting box wrench.

Should just mean, if the car is written off, you get a settlement, buy it back and fix it at a lower
cost, using used parts. Use the money saved on a repaint or hard parts.
Just make sure its not a salvage title.

Get it repaired...
I am having my wife's 97 A6Q repaired as we speak. I have seen the results so far and you can't tell it was hit. A shop with a good frame machine can straighten the unibody without much trouble. Good luck.
