Should my car run with the MAF disconnected?

Some say disconnect the MAF to see if it is causing running issues. When I disconnect the MAF the car runs rough and then sputters out after a few seconds. If I can get into the drivers seat quickly I can keep it going by fluttering the pedal. I can drive it too but it seems a little jerky. Do I have a bad MAP sensor/pressure transducer or leak to MAP/PT or is this normal?

I'd love to get an RS6. I'll swing it by and bring my VAGCOM if you guys want a shot at diagnosing it. It's driving me nuts. You still in Sudbury?

It's going to be harder for your since your car is so far outside the box. If it was me. I'd start doing the Bentley tests on each component.
But I do know that the car should run at least well enough to drive it with the MAF unplugged; that's an old trick used to get home when you blow a boost hose.

MAP is only used as a backup for MAF failure(idle) and most likely for air/fuel ratios in a forced induction aplication(reading boost)
i unplugged the MAF in my car and it ran normally...not the slightest difference......
swap an ECU to see if it changes anything(it's easyer than swapping the pressure transducer which involves soldering),do a pressure test to check for boost leaks, check your vacuum/boost hose going to the ECU, make sure it's nice and snug in there.

It really wanted to stall also, and sounded really ill. If it runs with throttle applied I wouldn't worry about it. (i.e. I wouldn't use it as a diagnostic tool.)
