Default So I just pulled the trigger on a GT2871

After my RS2 blew up (check link below) I had to do something. I agonzied over this for about two weeks and finally went with the hybrid. I considered used RS2s, new RS2s..... I thought of striking a match and having a 'tragic' fire.... but in the end I think this is right. I went with the kit. My intake hose was looking pretty dicey and the new coolant lines are required anyway. The 3071 was tempting........ but who knows what else I could destroy with that. Anyway I am hoping that 034's claims of fast spool and RS2 software compatability are true. Regardless I'll post my findings when I get everything back together.

not for the weak of heart

Did your decision have anything to do with my Jedi mind tricks?

Default It was you!

actually it was the agressive 034 selling tactics...... posting pictures and promises on their website so I could see them no matter where I was. Such easy access whenever I wanted

Actually the price isn't too far off from a new RS2 so that wasn't the real issue. If the boost comes on right around when it is supposed too thats a marked improvement. Also replacing the coolant lines makes me feel more secure. The old ones still flowed when I tested each but is it enough? Did they cause my turbo to grenade? Possibly I guess if they were gummed up or something and not flowing right. Finally if there is a bit of extra horsepower in there too well so be it.

The worst was talking myself out of the 3071. With my first turbo lasting 4 months buying a second so soon hurts the savings. The 3071 would just add more... clutch.... the requisite CGR.... bottom end work.... more agressive fueling. Buying the 2871 gives me time to do those things. I can get a clutch when this one wears out, not when it blows up. A CGR when I can afford it, not when my tranny blows up (I hope!) I can get my 7A cams in with a lightweight valve train. A 044 relayed maybe..... don't forget my exterior freshening. I still have tinkering to do but I can do it at my own pace. With the 3071 it's too much at once.

Anywho I will have it in Edmonton in mid June.... we'll do another test rip. You can hear my ghetto exhuast too lol. Soooo loud but it knocked 500rpm out my lag easy and the mullet hidden somewhere inside me secretly loves that roar under power.

Default Good choice, I'm still saving for my 2871.

I'm very interested to see how it works with the MRC RS2 software.

Default Thought you were going 3071?

Or??? I have a year to go before I do any turbo stuff.

Default Nope, 2871 with RS2 injectors & manifold (034 cast replica)

I'm still up in the air about software. I'm leaning toward MRC.

Default I had that idea, too.

The 2871 seems like a great idea. But when you get done, you're getting near $2k for the turbo, plumbing kit and MAF->turbo hose.

The bonus over RS2 is faster spool and potentially higher top end (with other mods).

But it sure ain't an off-the-shelf solution.

I still like the idea...

Default I need to replace my MAF to turbo hose anyway and quicker spool is a big deal to me

I already replaced my stock MAF to turbo hose with a used piece once and it is cut around the clamp at the turbo inlet again. There is no way I'm putting anything but a brand new silicone hose on there.

IMO the extra $ for the 2871 and possibly custom tuned software will be well worth it to get the quicker spool and more power than RS2.

Default Near Detroit. Long drive to EPL, but I've considered making the trip

034 has not released the manifolds yet, but they should be ready before I have the money saved. The timing they stated was a release in May sometime.
