Good Morning,
Does anyone know a good place to find the attached part for my 1992 Audi S4? I looked on line but cannot seem to locate the part number found on the old part? I am assuming that this is the timing belt tensioner? Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

If the part pictured is what you want to replace, then you have simply left the suffix "A" off your part #. It is the serpentine belt tensioner rather than timing belt tensioner.
Buy a new serpentine belt 054 903 137B and if yours is like most, you probably want new bolts as well.
Funny, when I opened this page genuinevwaudiparts.com ad banner was at the top, so they are an advertiser now, and the cheapest place to get a new part. Hold onto your shorts for the price, though; it isn't cheap.
What's the problem with the old tensioner? If it is bearing that can be replaced. If the spring part is broken, it is a goner.

Thanks for the part number and clarification on the correct part name. At $205, Audi definately doesn't make it easy to restore this old car. The tensioner is simply old and rusty and while I have the engine torn apart I am considering replacing it.

If the tensioner operates smoothly and doesn't jerk around it is probably serviceable. I would treat any rust on
the spring and keep some grease on it to retard any more rusting. You can clean and lubricate the spring through the small holes in the case. The bearing can be replaced if you can find some replacement rivets if the pulley does not turn freely.
That said, if there is any concern about the condition of this part, replace it. If it fails it sometimes comes apart and throws parts through the fan and radiator, and if the serpentine belt comes apart there have been pieces thrown behind the timing belt cover and resulted in timing belt failure. If it jerks the belt a lot or does not keep
the belt tensioned you should be able to see this just by looking.
There are many of these parts that are unique to this model, so the low production causes high prices where there are no aftermarket alternatives.
