Hmmm... I don't have a spacer on my 96 S6 with an RS2 transmission.

I think if you get the clutch right, you do not need the spacer for either the RS2 or B5S4 trans as it is attached to an AAN block in a C4 UrS4 or UrS6. The key is getting the correct pressure plate that is compatible with the UrS4/6 dual mass flywheel.

When I changed mine out, I kept it original but exchanged for less mileage flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. If IIRC there was definitely an Aha moment with the installation, patience is the key.

You should have used the C4 S4/S6 flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. A good welder with the proper equipment could fix your bellhousing.

....so then while putting all this on, i had the whole transmission about half an inch from going on and i think the problem is as i stated above, but i started tightening the bolts, and as i was doing the left side, i was tightening the bolt and the bell housing cracked? now im clueless what to do, can this be welded back together? any ideas for this happening?

You only need it with an RS2 style flywheel and pressure plate.

You need a flywheel and pressure plate combo that allows removal of the spacer, not just the clutch.

Agree. What I am saying (as is Skollie above), one combination that works is the OE UrS4 Dual mass flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. Use this combo = no need for the spacer. Since I am not a fan of single mass flywheels on this car, I do not offer another combo.

Obviously miscegenation needs to be done properly in order to be successful.
