but it will help keep the heat in the exhaust and out of the engine bay.

Default It can't improve flow that much either because the SS tubing is smooth relative to...

normal cast iron or even Inconel. Exception would be extrude honing of the cast, etc.

Default One very good reason not to coat.

If you ever have to go back and do some repair on the manifold, any coating will complicate things to no end. I wouldn't do it and I'm not going to do it on mine. My old mild steel one was another story and I coated that one. Besides, I kind of like the look of welded stainless steel.

It usually goes on the inside and the outside, sometimes on the inside only.

Default If made right, it's not fragile at all.

But a free flowing cast manifold is the best of both worlds.
