Under rated 335xi? Could this be the next car? I'm afraid to admit that I can get used to this...

Sadly it's a bit too much like the B5 S4 i.e. two, impossible to reach, undersized tiny turbo's - reportedly having all the same problems the B5 S4 had

you like cheap interiors ($2000+ for leather seating)....not to mention the complexity involved with tuning it in the aftermarket (think hammann and rdsport prices). Not knocking it, but think about it long and hard before you pull the trigger.

They did the math correctly but they have the concept all wrong. The relationship between engine output and drivetrain losses remains constant regardless of the engine output. The only thing that will change drivetrain losses is a change in the drivetrain. The 335 is not anywhere close to 350 hp. They made the common mistake of calculating drivtrain losses as a percentage.
If the 328 is accurately rated at 255hp/220lb-ft and puts 200hp/180lb-ft to the wheels. That is about a 20% loss, but you don't use 20% to calculate the loss through the same (or nearly idientical) drivetrain for a higher output engine. The losses would be the same 55hp/40lb-ft as measured for the 328 as they would be for the 335. Add this to the 275hp/300lb-ft they measured for the 335 and you get 330hp/340lb-ft. Much higher than the 300/300 BMW rates it at but not 350/360 as stated in that article.

I don't remember where I read that, but it was most likely Road & Track or Sports Car International.
