Default Well,I removed the spark plugs and found something wrong...

OK ,I followed Jame's idea to sit the car overnight and see if there's some oil in the chamber...

First,I removed the spark plugs.I couldn't notice if it's oil or the carbon deposited on the top of the cylinder.Cyl#1&5 look brown dry on the head.but Cyl#2-3 look more on black and a bit shiny. So I put everything back and just started the engine and waited until the car was getting to smoke out.I reved up the engine, the huge puff of smoke was comin' out.So then I off the engine....

Second,I removed the spark plugs again. Now on the cyl#2 there's more oily on the top of the cylinder. But It seems not sure enough to me.
So I got some idea..

Third,Again I put everything back but I disconnected the injector wires on the cyl#2.The purpose is I don't want the oily
mist on the top of the cylinder#2 to be burnt.
I started the engine again.few minutes later,It seems the car was still smoking out and surely,It run like a crap with roughly idle.
I off the engine and again removed the spark plugs off.Now the oil is enough to be noticed.
especially,on the cylinder#2.I saw the top
of the cylinder #2 is wet enough(compared to the second time).

So It has some possibilities that the oil burnt might be from the cylinder head or piston rings.

I have some more to mention about on my AAN motor. This AAN motor has been sit on the salvage for a year w/o spark plugs on the cylinder head.since I found this AAN.She were in a very good shape with low mileage.but the cons is there's some rust on the cylinder liner.

The mechanic said that should be ain't problem.
it was just surface rust.He used rust cleaner and polishing on the liner. It was looking better at that time but still have some scar
on the wall.

I did the compression test on the 5 cylinder.
It passed.150 Psig + (tolerance +- 10 Psig in each cylnider)

Here's waht I mentioned about the liner....

Personaaly,I don't think it's that worst!.

Default Pop, is that one of the cylinders in the engine you are running now?

If so that cylinder wall is pretty scored and would definitely be a source of oil consumption. That may not be your only source of consumption but if I knew I had a cylinder that looked like that in my engine and it was using oil I would be thinking about a rebuild. Hey Pop, did you get a chance to meet up with Gabe?

Default That is at least a big part of your problem, if not the source of all your smoke

Those pits in the cylinder wall will hold oil as the piston ring passes over them on the down stroke. All the oil in the pits will burn during combustion. The ring acts like a squeege to scrape oil off the cylinder wall and keep it below the piston, but the surface of the cylinder wall needs to be flat.

Your mechanic should be shot for telling you that cylinder wall damage wouldn't be a problem. The cylinders should have been honed to clean up the damaged areas and give a new set of rings a good surface to seal against. From the looks of it that might not have cleaned up with just a hone. They may need to be bored oversize to clean up all the damaged areas. That would require new oversized pistons as well as new rings.

Second, that damage was beyond honing. It needed boring.

Default You might be right but as previously my car didn't smoke allthe times...

It's just randomly.sometimes it 's running
great w/o smoke for 6 months and just back to smoke again with thinner oil.So where should i
begin to do? the head or the block first?
I have boths of spared head & block laying on.
Try thicker oil >> valve seals >> block.

Default It happened only on Cyl#2 or may be #3.........

So when I disconnected the injector wires on the Cyl#2.So there's shouldn't have any smoke out .So I'm wondering it's just my valve stem seals. So Just go for something easiest first.
PS. I emailed to Gabriel. He's now somewhere
in Cambodia. He's going to back to Thailand to see the Thai Boxing :-).

Default Hmmm, I think that if you have a cylinder that looks like that you need to tear it down and rebuild.

But if you want you could try doing the valve stem seals and see if it helps, its cheap enough and not too hard but I would'nt be too hopeful on the results. Hope you get a chance to get together with Gabe, hes a good dude.

Default HJ: I hope Gabe hasn't been trapped in the Bangkok airport for the past week.

That would be a bummer.

Default Yup,I'll do this experiment. It's cheap....

I'm thinking to do it or just asked mechanic
with $30 on labor charge.Hmmmmm!!! what's tools I need beside the valve seals plier?

PS.I'll kepp in touch with Gabriel,Hope to see
him soon
