Default I'm running a factory ECU with burned EPROM chipset.

Try Motorgeek.<ul><li><a href="http://www.motorgeek.com">http://www.motorgeek.com</a</li></ul>

Ask Marc S. (The rest are still running Motronic = stock dwell, AFAIK)

Default Aren't you on VEMS ? Your dwell should be pre-set....

2.5 to 3 is the range for around town regular non race apps/.

But consult w/ Marc.

Default Depends on the EFI system you are running

If you are running Motronic - somebody else had to worry about that...

034 ECU's have load based dwell mapping.
I usually configure the static dwell at 2.5-3ms
Then adjust the load (boost) multiplier to run less dwell (~2ms) at light load and up to 4-5ms at full boost. Basically, if you start getting ignition misfires at full boost and your coils/plugs are good, you need more dwell time.

With a VEMS ecu, you need to find a good compromise for your static dwell value. Enough dwell to keep ignition happy under full load and not too much to shorten the coils life.

I would say shoot for 3ms and if you are getting any weird ignition misses at full boost, your options are:
-add more load based dwell or simply add more static dwell(depending on the efi you are using)
-Turn your boost down: Never a good or fun solution... ;-)

Remember, coil dwell is a balance between enough spark energy to overcome your combustion pressures and not too much too saturate and burn out coils. I believe the motronic boxes have a true 3D Engine load vs Batt voltage vs dwell map that is utilized.

Default pretty much what he said

thanks Brendan

To add to that, I am testing a new VEMS firmware that supports MAP dwell multiplication (starts at a user settable base value then ramps up vs. boost) - amongst other things (AIM MXL dash support, 'map select', user configurable MAT vs rpm compensation, etc).

Once I'm satisfied with the settings and stability of it I'll detail the upgrade procedure on my website (all free of course).
