What makes an S6 a 95.5?

Of MiniMan's list, only the different radio proves it's a 95.5...
A 95.5 is really a 96, meaning it was built during the 1996 model year which per ETKA started on 7/1/1995. Normally any car built after 7/1 would get a "t" in the 10th place in the VIN indicating the model year change (instead of the "s" for 1995) but Audi essentially faked a "1995" VIN and sold S6's built right through the end of the calendar year 1995 as 95's, even though nearly half of them really should have been sold as 96's.
This was done because all "96" cars had to be OBDII compliant, and Audi not unreasonably didn't want to bother for an engine that was being dropped from production.
So, if your car was built in July or later, it's a 95.5.

also b/c no differential switch and the wider radio, cigarette lighter relocated to between seats
I had a black 95 which I sold, and now have a silver 95.5, Personally, I liked the 95's with the open headrests and differential switch (which always reminds passengers you have a quattro), but oh well...

*Ding! Of all the responses, this is the most accurate.
If your sedan VIN ends in 121xxx, you own a 1995.5
Sport wheel, AVUS, chrome rings, etc were all rolling changes.
Forgie and I are still arguing about whether the VIN split also applies to avants. (I say no)
