Default Who used the VW Fox steering damper?

I bought the Audi part 4A0-425-021 (for $60) and I'm curious if it is identical to the VW Fox one, or just the same size.

Mine says

BOGE
1-0690-22-819-1
5555IA 236/04 E 02

Any BTDTs on the R&R of this thing appreciated. I haven't checked what the Bentley says yet.

Default Search for the write-up.

I don't remember where it is (not at SJMautotechnik), but I do remember seeing a good write-up with pictures. There is at least one tab that needs to be bent out of the way and then back in place to keep one of the mounting bolts or nuts from potentially jamming the steering rack (that would be bad).

My car does tramline with the 255 tires, but I unbolted one end and the damper seemed to be good.

Default Me

Almost identical in size, the damper part looks beefier on the VW unit, however I was told (not confirmed) that the Audi part is slightly stiffer than the VW part (I find it hard to believe looking at the two units side by side).

Very easy to R&R, just remember that the right side bolt is held in place by a metal tab that you have to bend open, be careful not to loose the bolt in the transmission when you remove the nut (best to turn the wheel to one side)

Default 15 minute job. If.

And of the many repairs I have done to my car this was one of the best. Easiest, cheapest and a major improvement in the way it drives.

Default Not identical....

My understanding is that the VW damper can extend slightly farther, but performance is the same. I got mine from Scott Mockrey. I can't tell the difference from stock, but that's because it's still sitting in a box in the garage.
