I think (buyer beware) the correct pins are the VWP 192175 female pins. You need 20 (4 x 5). Don't but the cable seals from them. Get those from a VW parts source, e.g. VM Autohaus.

The equivalent male pins seem to be VWP 192156. You need 6 (five for the ECU to POS signals and one for the POS ground).

Add it to your list instead of the two pin per pigtail wires.

YMMV

Have you or anyone else confirmed that these are the correct pins? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

Thanks,
Steve

Marc Swanson is a much better source for these parts or a complete pre-assembled harness. The AMP connector housings and junior power timer pins are the correct parts to use. A lot has changed since Dave published that article. You can talk to Marc about other options he sells that may be a better choice.

I'm just crunching the numbers. I won't be buying a $200 harness from anybody, though. I've got wire, tools, etc. Money too, for that matter. I would rather do it myself. I've looked at Marc's site for a while. I might go with the connector kit unless I can find it much cheaper. Already tried Newark and Digi-key(not buying a 1000 pieces of each, though). What has changed since this article besides ls option and more recent VW/Audi coil versions? I was planning on the 06e905115e coils. I can get them for a little over $100, shipped.

"What has changed?"

Is that a serious question that you are looking for an answer to?

That thread was written 7 1/2 years ago. At that time there were no options to making your own harness and buying the coils from the dealer. Now, you find several options. Also, Marc carries the AMP connectors and pins that were outrageously expensive to buy from the dealer or other US suppliers in the relatively small quantities needed to make a kit or two.

You are apparently speaking in tongues or riddles. I don't know what you mean by you tried Newark. You went to NJ for some reason? In quest for something cheaper? I guess Digi-Key is an electronic supplier. If you have an inside track to a supplier of AMP automotive products and can get a great deal, that's good, especially if you want to share it with the forum. Hey, that's what it is about, and the reason Dave posted all the research he has done on making a coil pack replacement.

But, if you are just looking for a handful of connectors like most owners, the answer was already given. There have been a lot of these conversions done in the last 7 1/2 years, and a lot of searching done for parts on both sides of the Atlantic before efiexpress started supplying the parts and complete kits.

YMMV. If it does, please share that with the forum.

No tongues or riddles and yes a serious question. Dave said it looked like those were the empty pins that were needed but it didn't appear that anyone had ordered/verified that.

http://www.newark.com/ and www.digikey.com are the biggest electronic suppliers I know of in the U.S. Newark is a division or distributor for Farnell(the biggest I know of in Europe). I also use mouser for "boutique" type of caps and resistors. These parts have always been available. The hard part with diy electronic stuff is identifying the product and then finding a distributor that will deal with you. Amp is a product line of Tyco. Now Tyco just goes by T.E. for Tyco electronics. Here is the link to the amp catalog with all the specs:
http://www.te.com.cn/content/te-conn...on-system.html

I could remove a pin, measure it and compare with those listed in the catalog to find the TE part number and then search for that. I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to do that.

I'm into tube guitar and classic audiophile amplifiers so I deal with a lot of electronics. Electronic components are usually pretty cheap and soldering is easy.

I also considered the possibility of rebuilding the pos's with more recent and better performing transistors. I think you would destroy the case in the process since the small wires seem to be a weak link, as well. Another solution would be to use an electronic project box or just mount them to an aluminum plate. That just started sounding too much like work, though.

I'm a Linux Engineer so I support open source. I will always finish these threads with my findings and resolution because it may help others in the future. A lot of people get support from forums and never post what the fix was(because they obviously got it fixed and didn't care about the thread anymore).

Does this help? (One coil connector has all 4 pins populated, the other only two. The power connectors, one has 3 pins, the other only 2)

The only parts I couldn't find were the 3 and 4 pin MALE JPT connectors. The volvo parts are what you need and what Marc sells(I bought those from him). He sells nice little packs with plug, pins, boots, and seals, IIRC.

I built my harness(color coded) and bought 6 red coils(one for spare) for about $175. It worked like a champ. I'm going to wrap it with the Self healing silicone tape(That will be another $25, probably).

I used TXL wire from this source: http://www.wireandsupply.com/category_s/36.htm

I didn't look up the male pins but Mouser has those, the seals, boots, female housings, 2 position Male JPT housings(just not 3 or larger. those appear to be restricted by TE for VAG and Volvo).

Originally I had my prototype harness in the normal black corrugated plastic wire loom - but it melted in a few weeks. Then I tried it in "chrome" corrugated plastic wire-loom tubing and that lasted from 2005 to about 2011 when I wrapped most of the harness in self-sealing/sticking silicone rubber tape (that stuff is a bit nasty to work with). Recently I bought a good used Apikol harness and am now running it. While the Apikol harness is more professional, my original prototype harness was much more efficient with the use of wire (e.g. common ground wire with four brances rather than 5 ground wires, etc.)

Many people run the EFI Express LS2 coil pack system (with spark plug wires) now.
