Default Any tips for a trans removal...

What is the best and quickest way to remove the transmission? I am using a lift and trans jack. I will be using air tools to get the exhaust out the way.

Do I need to just unbolt the DP, or remove it also. If so, what is the quickest way to do so? And of course, I'll unbolt the cats first.

What order should I unbolt the axle shafts, drive shaft bell housing bolts, and trans mounts?

Should I unbolt the shift linkage for the adjustment joints?

How long would you think it would take with 2 or 3 people working on it?

I know I am missing a few things, but I will ask when I think of them.

I'd drop the exhaust from the turbo back and the sub frame.

Default I did it on jack stands, but...

I didn't touch the subframe.

Drop the whole exhaust, turbo back, in two pieces. Aside from the weight it's easy. Have new downpipe to cat flange bolts on hand since they probably won't be reusable if they're original.

You must unbolt the two shift linkage shafts. Mark the position first. This is detailed in the bentley.

Default Half right

This is not C5-A6 or B5-S4. No need to drop the sub-frame.

Default Yes ! Remove the Procon-Ten cable before detaching the tranny from bell housing !

Don't F it up like I did.

Order : downpipe, cats, flywheel sensors & tranny connectors, axle half-shafts, starter, clutch slave cylinder, exhaust bridge, propshaft heat shield, shifter linkages, exhaust heat shield, propshaft, procon-ten cable.

Position the Tranny Jack underneath until it rest, secure chains etc.

Then unscrew tranny mounts and bell housing bolts.

Pull & drop

Use the handbrake to hold the rear wheels while unbolting the propshaft. After detached, strap it off to the side away from the tranny.
