Anyone done any testing to see if short shifting is faster on a stock or chiped S?

Default Anyone done any testing to see if short shifting is faster on a stock or chiped S?

I was playing with my G-tech collecting HP/TQ curves and got interesting results. The HP peak was at 5800-6000 RPM and dropped off significanlty after 6250. The torque peak was way down at 3500-3700 RPM. Given that the peak torque is so low if you rev to redline in 1st the shift into 2nd only drops the RPM to just above 4k (above the torque peak.) It seems to me that the fastest acceleration is probably to shift at 6k RPM not the 7k redline to avoid the drop off in power above 6250 and get the RPM down at the peak of the torque curve. Short shifting a bit like this would keep the engine between the torque peak and HP peak for the entire run.

I'm going to do some more testing and see which shift points yeild the best acceleration times.

BTW my peak HP was 200 and peak torque was 230. Keep in mind that these are net figures that will be lower than WHP chassis dyno numbers due to wind resistance. They seem respectable for an MRC chipped S6 w/ 147k on the clock. The previous owner claimed the chip should produce 280hp/330tq at the crank.

Default One other thing to try - is it worth the extra shift when doing a 0-60 run?

You might be able to get back into the torque band shifting to 3rd but you have to factor in the time lost due to the shift.

Default I think they designed the car to run 0-60 (or 100 kph) with 1st and 2nd only. 2nd hits redline ....

just after 100 kph (62 mph) (around 103 kph). The early road tests all involved dropping the clutch at around 4000 rpm or 6000 rpm in first (automotive journalists don't care if it harms the car or not - they aren't going to pay if it breaks). However, don't try this at home kids because either the clutch will spin or teeth on first gear will suffer (gall, resulting in a grinding whine).

BTDT on the clutch thing.
