I did. Managed to get home in 4th (not easy with a sintered metal clutch). Thing that sucks is I was going to return a part for my wifes car that was wrong. It's in the middle of getting new struts. Now I have 2 broken cars....again. Any tips would be welcome.

I haven't tried moving it but I can get it in and out of fourth. When I say the lever I am talking about the 2" long lever that is on the front left side of the tranny near the top. It has a little "ball" on top of it that the shift linkage connects to.

the fact that it goes in and out of 4th means it may not be broken. There is a bolt that holds the leaver on the gearbox to the oposing leaving conecting to the gear leaver and if that is loose it may explain the problem.
There should be two leavers coming from the gear leaver to the gearbox the first one is the one you are talking about which changes the gears and the second does the same as the shift linkage it just gives stability.
Can you send a picture?
