I think you meant, "convex", and not "spherical", yes? I laughed at the visual notion of having disco ***** for side view mirrors, regardless. Maybe that's what they're called, I don't know, but it sounds funny.

It's convex, but not the same convex all the way across. Since a convex lense is, in essence, a section of sphere, "aspherical" implies that the lens is not equally convex everywhere.
Toward the outer edge, it becomes more convex, showing a lot of mirror housing, for safety.
