Check your spark plug torque.
We really dropped the ball on this one, guys. (Especially you, UrS4Boy, this is one of your favorite topics). A loose plug can make a sound like a lifter. Even if you think the sound is originating from somewhere else, check your plugs.
And for others that don't know: The plugs on our cars tend to back out...especially for those running high boost. Spark plug torque should be checked at each oil change. Never loosen, just check and tighten if needed.

all my fault? I don't think so. Levent said the ticking went away (mostly) when he added oil so it seemed to be lifters and a low oil. So I just chastised him for not checking his oil for a month or more.
If you were on the list longer, you would know that I have previously posted (many times) about the importance of checking your spark plugs AND only tightening, never loosening (because of the crush washers), and torquing to 22 lb ft.
Oddly enough, just this morning on a 2hr flight, I was thinking that I should automatically post every Friday AM: "Check your oil" and monthly (or something) "Check your plugs".
But I suppose you would still want me to post "Wipe your *ss". (Because I presume you would blame me for your "skid marks" if I didn't)
Give me a break.

I was only teasing you because you are usually the one that points out the importance of regular maintenance activities like checking the oil and torquing the plugs. You said it yourself:
"I have previously posted (many times) about the importance of checking your spark plugs".
I am not saying that a loose plug is the issue here, but if *we* (not just you, Dave, all of us) had been on our toes, we would have all suggested that he check plugs.
I've been on this list long enough to know that this post is waaay out of character for you. What's the deal?

We all swore the sound was coming from right under the valve cover, but as the story goes, we weren't so lucky :-\
Moral of the story, motors are weird and you can never pin-point where the sound is coming from.
