Avant antenna
Does anyone know if the avant antenna crosses to any of the VWs of the period? It sure looks like the one for the same year GTIs etc. and those are way more avail in bone yards than S Avants!

Asked my friend Kate. She mostly knows Audis but she does think there is a possible cross.
A 1997 C4 Avant uses a 4A9 025 501F antenna base for phone and radio.
The antenna rod for this is 4A9 035 849C
Looking at the 1997 Golf info she found a 1J0 035 501F base (!?) which
takes 3A0 051 849 antenna rod.
Bottomline: might be worth a try.

Well.... I had a meeting set up with a friend with VW you mentioned to do a side by side comparo. I had planned on acknowledging and adding to your post at that time. Given 2 Audi PNs that are identical even the first 9 digits, but one with an alpha suffix, the differentiating suffix can be a game changer. So, your information, while informative, was not yet entirely additive, but let me take the oppty to profusely thank you as apparently ackowledgement and propriety are very important to you.

You're welcome. Otherwise look up your own Kate info next time. Even if it's not 100%, it was more than any one else gave you. Hence the expected and required "Thanks". Just common courtesy. Shouldn't have to fish for it.

Thanks but I didn't ask for KATE info, I asked for exeperiential info.
As such, I just tried the parts on the cars mentioned and can report that the VW part, whip/base, while looking identical has a smaller screw thread so no go.
As far as the ""expected and required "Thanks"."" WOW, since you refer to yourself as "The Librarian" I would have thought the info look up would have been as easy as falling off a log. I've changed other peoples flat tires and "expected" nothing other than if my wife or daughter were in the same bind others might do the same. Having to 'fish' for validation speaks volumes. Maybe that where the "Librarian came from? But expectations being 'personal' I guess I can't quibble with how you set yours. Requirements on the other hand... please do pass along the hand book and any secret handshakes & passwords etc. I need to know. Lord know how many other requirements I've missed so far!

I see you were raised up real good and polite like.
I will make a point of NOT "helping" you again.
My bad.
Sorry to have bothered.
