Avant trunk question

1. It seems that the driver's side storage area is awfully sparse. What would have been there originally? The PO had a CD changer in there, but I don't know if he removed anything else.
2. Note the connector in the pic. It has no home. Anyone know where it is supposed to go? All lights, washer, wiper etc. are working ok.
(PO was a smoker, thus the baking soda on the carpets)
